Dunfallandy House is a country mansion house built in the Georgian style in the early part of the 19th century. It is the ancestral home of the Fergusson family – the most famous being Lieutenant-General Archibald Fergusson (The General). A picture of The General hangs in the Great Hall together with his coat of arms and a summary of the Fergusson family tree over the last 200 hundred years. The General made his name (and fortune) in military campaigns in India for the East India Company.
Located nearby is the famous Dunfallandy Stone. This important historical artefact is described as a Pictish Cross Slab. The stone stands around 1.5m high and 0.6m wide and was carved around 700AD. It has a highly elaborate cross carved on the front face and a collection of symbols and figures carved on the rear. The Stone is protected from the elements by a stone and glass case and is well worth visiting.
